Jake Remembered is offering a scholarship at Jake's alma mater, Western Hills High School.  If you are a graduating senior at WHHS, please see your counselor for the official application. (Download Application)

Jake Cartwright graduated from Western Hills High School in 2001.  He was involved with Student Council, Varsity Soccer, Homecoming Court, Theatre, along with many clubs and organizations.  Jake went on to attend Tarleton State University and then graduate from Sam Houston State University in 2006.  He understood the importance of education, but never lost his ambition to balance school and work with extracurricular activities and community involvement.

After graduating from Sam Houston State University, Jake was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer of the colon. He battled the disease for 19 months,

 repeatedly outliving his life expectancy.  At only 24 years old- his life had a new purpose: helping cancer research while spreading awareness.  Through his blog and participating in trials for new cancer treatment options, Jake inspired his friends, family, and many people whom he had never met.  Due to that inspiration, friends and family have created Jake Remembered, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for cancer research as well as helping seniors at WHHS further their education.  

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Must be a graduating Senior from Western Hills High School in the Spring/Summer of 2017

  2. Must be accepted to an accredited college (2 or 4 year)

  3. Must submit one letter of recommendation from a non-relative.

  4. Must submit an essay of no more than 500 words

 

Describe in 500 words or less any situation or event, during your time as a high school student, that did not happen the way you had planned and how you rose to face that challenge.  Must submit a resume. (Include extracurricular activities, community involvement, leadership roles, volunteerism, and work experience.

 Scholarship Information
At least One $1,100.00 scholarship will be awarded to the applicant chosen by the Board of Directors of Jake Remembered.  Applicants will be judged on their essay, their involvement in the school and community, and their letter of recommendation.  The recipient will be notified of their status no later than May 26, 2017.
